Restrictions on the use of laughter gas in food production have been lifted

After the inclusion of diazoto monoxide, better known as laughing gas, in the List IV of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, ILAW Legal together with the Lithuanian Association of Hotels and Restaurants, the Lithuanian Association of Senior Chefs and Confectors of Lithuania, UAB Sangaida and iSi GmbH initiated and contributed to the amendment of the above mentiond List IV and the Order of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania "On the Approval of Lists of Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances".

This amendment ensures that laughing gas, when used as a food additive (in the manufacture of creams, sauces, shaking cream and the preparation of a large number of other foods), is not subject to restrictions on the use as other substances on the List IV of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

We are pleased to have been able to help with the removal of additional administrative and financial burdens from catering establishments and to contribute to the successful continuation of the business. This amendment also harmonises the regulation of N2O gas in Lithuania in the food industry with those in Latvia, Estonia and other EU countries.

The ILAW team consisted of the partner, lawyer Džiuginta Balčiunė and the associate Jolanta Borko.
